Fly with you! Here are the name meanings for many of the Disney Fairies characters.
Tinker Bell-The word "Tinker" comes from the fact that she fixes pots and pans and tinkers with them. SHe also makes a tinkling bell sound.
Fairy Mary-"Mary" comes from the root, "love" or "beloved". But I think it was chosen because it rhymes with Fairy. I think she was addressed as "Fairy" because she was originally the fairies' teacher and putting "Fairy" in the front of a name would make it more formal"
Clank-A clank is the sound of two pieces of metal being struck together. And tinker fairies work with metal.
Slate-A slate is a gray rock. It sort of looks like something a tinker fairy would use.
Silvermist-Silvermist is actually two words; "silver" and "mist". A cloud of silver mist seems like a nice, peaceful location for a water fairy.
Rani-The name means "queen" or "lady". I mean...she looks like a queen I guess?
Marina-A marina is a harbor where boats are located. And Marina is a water fairy.
Fawn-A fawn is a deer, and Fawn is an animal fairy.
Rosetta-The name means "splendid" and Rosetta is a vain fairy. Also, the name has "rose" in it and she's a garden fairy.
Chloe-Her name means "blooming" or "fertility" which makes sense since she's a garden talent.
Lily-She is named after a flower and she's a garden fairy. Enough said.
Sweet Pea-Same deal as Lily; a garden fairy named after a flower. Sweet peas are also pink, which is her favorite color.
Iridessa-The name comes from the word "iridescent" which means luminous colors that seem to change when seen at different angles. ANd she's a light fairy that makes rainbows.
Fira-The name means "firey" and I guess fire is a type of light. Her nickname is actually Moth, which is an insect that is drawn to life, just like Fira is. In fact, in the Gail Carson Levine books, her name is actually Moth. But it is just her nickname in other publications.
Clarion-This is actually a boy's name that means "king". Queen Clarion is a queen.
Terence-The name means "smooth" or "tender" which is his personality.
Fairy Gary-His name is Fairy Mary but with a letter change, I think because he's supposed to be the Fairy Mary of the dust keepers.
Zarina-The name means "golden" which is the color of pixie dust.
Dr. Griffiths-His first name is actually Martin which is derived from Mars, the Roman god of war. And he is an antagonist in the movie.
Glimmer-It may link to the glimmer of lightning, and she is a lightning fairy.
Rumble-His name links to the rumble of thunder.
Periwinkle-She is named after a blue flower, which she recieves in Secret of the Wings. The flower also represents faith, trust (and pixie dust?).
Prilla-I think the name was made up for the Tinkerbell movies.
Lyria-The name means "lyre" which is a type of instrument. Early illustrations of her actually show her with a lyre. There is actually a music fairy in one of the moons named Lyra, though she plays the bass.
Nyx-She is named after the goddess of the night. It may link to her personality.
Dulcie-It seems a lot like the Spanish word for "sweet" and the treats she bakes are very sweet.
