Chapter the Third and come more story words!
~Not too long after Lotus Arrived did she come to visit Lavender at the latter's abode. She had plenty of leaves that no Gardener of any persuasion could transform into pretty new flowers. Lavender knew these particular leaves were bad news because they were poison sumac leaves, and poison sumac leaves were never to be touched with bare skin even by Gardeners of any persuasion. Lavender suited up in some protective gear she had Saffron and Foxglove make from durable, safe plants and took the poison sumac and Lotus back to where the leaves originated from.
~A large field of poison sumac had just appeared in a section of Neverland that no Neverfairy dared visit before, so Lavender just made a ring around the particular plant with the leaves from said plant. She then removed the special gloves Foxglove made for Lavender and washed them. These gloves could be washed with soap and water in case of touching anything that could irritate the skin, then Lotus and Lavender flew off to a safer area to explore.
~Heidi and Holly were helping Daylily, Elva and Jessie ready a nice water area for the songbirds to play in when Lavender and Lotus landed. Lotus saw her own reflection and wondered about the fairy with nearly chestnut brown eyes staring back. She also wondered why the fairy was so wavy.
~"Rrrreeeeeefffflleeeeeeectiiioooonnnnn," drawled Lavender, pointing to her own.
~Lotus reached a hand into the water, but Lavender, knowing the water was so deep not even she could touch the ground beneath without going completely underwater even if she stood on tiptoe and reached as high as possible, stopped Lotus just in time to avoid soggy wings.
~"Lotus, you have to be more careful," said Heidi. "The only fairy we know of with waterproof wings is Heather Moonstone and the only other one we know of that can swim is Rani."
~But Lotus didn't yet understand how water could be dangerous or even what danger was. Perhaps the fact that she wasn't given an Arrival ceremony or the fact that only Lavender noticed her when she was still a Laugh or even the fact that her first friend was possibly the least typical Gardener of all may have affected her comprehension, or worse, Incompletion… and yet, Lavender knew Lotus needed a friend that could help her. Still, Lavender wanted to be certain, so who better to consult than Mother Dove? Just one problem: Lavender needed a friend that could speak faster than she to accompany her, preferably an Animal Talent, even an Animal Scout.
~But instead of an Animal Talent, Gingko joined. Gingko was hard of hearing, but could still speak for both Lotus and Lavender, so off those three went to see Mother Dove.
~Gingko carefully explained the predicament of Lotus and wanted to know how Complete Lotus was. As it turned out, Lotus was Complete, but not in the typical sense; she, like Lavender, was Recomplete and it was no fault of Neverland at all. The baby that laughed Lotus into existence had become deaf shortly before her first laugh. The Laugh then flew through a dandelion seed plant and her form attached to one seed, but the seed had also flown into a hollowed out paper tube, landed in a bit of shredded paper and flown through various fallen leaves before landing inside a small paper crane, remaining stuck in said crane until Neverland, but a few fibres remained on her person, affecting her development. Lotus wasn't at all deaf and could read, but she couldn't write or speak yet because the parts where fairies could write and speak were replaced with the ability to create many origami items from almost any plant shape that was flat and square. Thankfully, Lavender wasn't easily perturbed and wanted to help her new friend.
~Lavender found several a square leaf for Lotus to fold into different shapes and sure enough, Lotus folded the first ten sheets into cranes, the next ten into swans and the rest into all sorts of things from furniture to tea sets and tea trays and even books. Lavender really enjoyed the origami crafts and even decided to try one, but she wasn't as good at origami as Lotus. Finally, Lotus decided to make a rhombic dodecahedron using twelve leaves. Afterwards, Lavender grew some very thin vines for the origami shapes to hang from as decorations. After using every last leaf for origami, Lotus and Lavender decided to fly to…
~"Iiiiiiiii hhhaaaaaaavvvvve aaaaaaaaa nnnneeeewwwwwww gaaaarrrrdeeeeeeenn aaaarrrrrreeeeeeaaaaaa," drawled Lavender. "Iiiiiiiiit'ssssss hhhiiiiiiiiddeeeeeeennnnnn ttthhrrrrrroooooooouuuuugh hhheeeeeeerrrrre."
~As Lavender guided Lotus to her new garden area, Lotus saw how empty it was… there wasn't even a single blade of grass yet, but Lavender would surely fix that! Lavender took off her shoes, stuck her bare feet into the ground, wiggled her toes and up grew some very tall grass! She then made some of the most whimsical plants imaginable grow, including fuzzy daisies, spiky dahlias and even bouncy rhododendrons! One twisty, bendy sternbergia even wrapped herself around Lotus' waist and tickled Lotus until she laughed so hard her tummy started hurting. Lavender was scooped up by five sternbergas and was laughing even harder and louder than Lotus, who had a very strong laugh. Everyone was having way too much fun laughing in the new garden.
~We should definitely do this again, Lavender said through her plants.
~Everyone agreed, even Lotus, who couldn't hear the plants talking.
~It grew quite late and the sun was going down. Lotus had to return home while there was still enough daylight to see by, so after farewelling, Lotus returned home and Lavender grew some dark red cherries for herself (she could eat up to ten by herself!) and buttercups for Zalena so they could end the day on a sweet note. This was the best day before her Arrival Anniversary ever.
I hope you enjoyed this tale! Here's to happy reading!
