Poem time!

I came across one day
A girl sweeter than clay
Her name was Xenops
And 'tis no malaprop
When I flew towards her way.

How prim and proper
Adorned with copper
Though I knew
From the sight of her eyes so blue
This day seemed to compare to a grasshopper.

Bemoaned she
To Water Scout Heidi
"I told the other Gardeners I'd grown turmeric,
But they all laughed it off as chimæric.
Oh, why such ridicule unto me?"

Explained Heidi to Xenops
"Be it turmeric or ginger or even hyssop,
Just because others tease
And leave you displeased,
What in Neverland reason is that to stop?"

I then chimed in and added
"There's an adage
That was surely a must
Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust,
Though none with such have padded."

"That makes very little sense!"
Cried Xenops, now a little tense.
"I feel that this hypothetical pad
Might leave me had
If not for the feeling of suspense!

"I'm feeling quite discontent
As I sense a big portent
That more ridicule
Than a bee leading a mule
Shall soon be present!"

As if sensing more to glean,
"Why Xenops, whatever could that mean?"
I asked she so perturbed
and otherwise disturbed
As Xenops began dusting herself clean.

Alas, came unto us the reason
Why unto Xenops so displeasin'
"Oh look, Li'l Miss Brownie,"
Why did Xenops feel frowny?
It was indeed from the teasin'.

A few others teased and poked fun
Nary a care that they hurt anyone
Until Animal Scout Daylily
Deemed this prattle silly
As she landed after her shift was done.

Then Daylily spotted a worm
And though several others did squirm,
All over Daylily the worm crawled
With not one hint of an Animal Scout apalled
From which Daylily's giggles confirmed.

From giggles to chortles to a long, hearty laugh
Maybe this day wouldn't remain a gaffe
As Xenops and I were tickled flush
When in the laughter did rush
Faster than a tower of giraffes!

To the worm 'twas no mistake
That she planned to start the laughing quake
Which was a feeling
That left your insides appealing
Until you laughed so hard your tummy ached.

Only after the worm slithered away
Did yours truly say,
"Tickled by a worm!"
"Consider laughter confirmed!"
Said Daylily. "She sure made my day!"

When the day was over
Xenops felt better than a four-leaf clover
And soon the sun set
But happiness we'll never forget
Even during a simple flyover.

So remember ye this advice well
If your day feels the opposite of swell
It can take a while after a gaffe,
But it actually helps to give a laugh
Because that's the best healing you never can sell.
