In 2.0, you can dye the furniture, however, in 1.0, you can't.

It's alright to treat it as a dress up game or some house decoration thing. It certainly isn't they best way to communicate with others due to the lagging chats.

It's alright, I think the only issue is the smooth transitions between each text that's sent.
