The Story of Lemony Flickerlily
February the thirteenth. Galway, Ireland. 1949.
It was a particularly cold night in Galway. Snow falling to the ground, blanketing the city in soft, white, crystals. The Coyne family lay shivering in their beds, wool blankets wrapped tightly around them. None could sleep for the cold. Tierney, the youngest of the family, only two days old, lay staring up at a bird which had found it's way into her nursery. The bird kept flying down, picking up whatever it could find, and bringing it back to the nest it was designing. Never could the baby know that this bird had hailed from Neverland, on a mission it never returned from. Tierney was, after all, only two days old. But this bird amused Tierney so. Her eyes brightened, every time her attention came back to the creature. A smile played on her lips for awhile. She gurgled happily for a bit. The bird landed on the ledge of her cradle, and looked down at her. He sang a little. Overcome with joy, Tierney laughed aloud. It was her first laugh. The bird chirped happily at the little being, which brought out a bigger laugh from her.
Her laughter carried through the house, and into the cold world beyond. It was picked up by a wilted dandelion flower, exhausted from the cold. It perked up as the laugh surrounded the small plant. The sound carried the dandelion off into the sky, twirling and beaming with joy and light. The laugh was powerful, being the direct cause of a Never Creature, and was filled with a brightness which was a rarity in Neverland.
The dandelion flew through the air. Others flew with it, all heading for the same place. It came to Pixie Hollow, and landed in the midst of awaiting fairies, all gazing at the dandelions in delight. Her's was the first opened, and she sat staring up at the fairies with new eyes. Queen Clarion smiled at her and began the ceremony. The young fairy moved around to view all the different talents. She tried most of them, never really feeling comfortable with any of them, when she felt a warmth inside of her, that had not been there before. She turned and saw a little ball of light staring back at her from the stand. She gazed at it, and felt a connection to it. She reached out her hands, and cautiously, picked up the ball of light. It surged with light, and embraced her in a warm, golden glow, it was unlike anything anyone had seen before. The light dimmed some, and became a duller, dark light, which faintly resembled a golden moon. She hugged the light, and Clarion came and stood before her. "Come forward light fairies, and welcome your newest member of your talent Lemony."
