While a nice thought, the company would never release another DS title because the 3DS and the New 3DS have basically taken over the new generation of gaming. Why develop a new game on outdated software when there can be more done on newer systems? If Disney was to ever make another Pixie Hollow title, it would likely be on the Switch, seeing as how the 3DS's lifespan is almost over and we're awaiting the announcement for the new handheld system. They would lose a lot of money to produce an outdated game, when the 3DS has been out for over 6 years now. That is, if Nintendo decides to keep making consoles.
The way things are headed, it will likely be focused on the Switch and future mobile apps. Think business: everybody has a phone, so using customer's logic, why go out and buy another $300 handheld system when they can just play games on something they already have? Not to mention, production costs a lot of money. Materials, manufacturing, advertisement, developers, the numbers multiply quickly. With the failure of the Wii U, Nintendo is treading lightly but recently hit big on the Nintendo Switch, which to be honest is a phenomenal console with brilliant games worth the $400. Disney is a hog for money, and whatever makes them money, they go for it.
The reason Frozen was a huge success is because it was advertised to the point where it was marketed everywhere: Disney chose to market the new movie because they knew young kids would fall in love with the princesses and beg their money to buy more merchandise. Disney, of course, predicted this and went all out, and that's why so many developers went home rich. Hate to say it, but the Pixie Hollow fanbase has been diminishing, or at least has become obscure to the point where it's almost invisible. I never hear about Tinker Bell anymore, and whether or not its due to my age group, but Disney might not see the point in making a new game for the small, dedicated audience. They care about numbers, not minority. |
