Seagulls inland?

I remember a few times in the last ten years seeing seagulls further inland than a beach town, as in so far inland you'd have to take an auto for at least three hours to reach the beach! Yet there were a lot of seagulls I can recall near a shopping area I used to live near, especially in the winter. Anyone else see seagulls that far inland?
