Just like the mainland, Neverland and Pixie Hollow experience lunar cycles. In fact, that's how they keep track of months. But these three full moons are very special.

The blue moon rises every eight years. While mainland calendars consider "blue moons" to be the second full moon of a month, this moon is literally blue and always rises at the end of autumn. Whenever a blue moon rises, a fairy is chosen to create an autumn sceptor, in which a rare blue moonstone is placed on top. All sceptors built over the years are displayed in the Hall of Sceptors, located in the Queen's chambers. They are created by various talents. The moonstone is also kept there. When the blue moon rises during the Autumn Revelry, its rays pass through the moonstone and create blue pixie dust, which is used to keep the Pixie Dust Tree flowing. Blue pixie dust is probably the rarest and most powerful dust seen in Neverland.

The purple moon appears in Pixie Hollow annually. It may be in the late summer or the fall. As it rises in the sky, the moon appears to be all the colors of the rainbow. In the beginning of the night, it's a red moon, followed by orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue and purple. The moon usually appears to be purple by midnight. The Purple Moon celebration is a celebration of friendship between the talents. It is a time of getting dressed up (many fairies like to wear purple) and dancing with friends. The Purple Moon is actually celebrated in magical cultures outside of Pixie Hollow.

The pink moon in Neverland is not to be confused with the mainland's pink moon (April's full moon). The one in Pixie Hollow appears in the late winter or springtime, and is litterally a pink moon. There is a pink moonstone, but it is not as fragile as the blue one and doesn't need to be placed on a sceptor. It produces pink pixie dust too. Long, long ago, when never fairies visited the mainland to change the seasons, they would actually interact with humans. The fairies would take pouches of a few speks of the pink pixie dust and would secretly use it to inspire humans to have hope and to believe in magic. The pink moon celebration has been a celebration of the new year, which would typically begin on the Spring Equinox in Pixie Hollow.

What happened to the pink moonstone? Well, the queen before Clarion was training her successor. But that fairy turned on her, almost stole the pink moonstone and became a rogue fairy. In order to protect the moonstone, it was placed in a cave under Neverland. She didn't find the pink dust to be necessary as many humans believed in fairies and magic at the time, even though they didn't interact with each other as much as before. After the next pink moon, a mysterious darkness and chill took over Pixie Hollow. Flowers wouldn't open and fireflies wouldn't light up. In order to protect the fairies, the queen used extremely advanced magic to move the pixie dust over to a small patch in the heart of Neverland which would be their new, safer home. She figured it would be the best option because Neverland was very safe, even after the chill came to Pixie Hollow. Thankfully, she was correct.
