I kid you not when I say I'm a little hard of hearing, but at least I can still speak. I needed an Animal Friend that would alert me visually of something and I perused Beck's Animal Nursery for the perfect one. Butterflies were vibrant, but a bit too diurnal and silent, pollywogs couldn't fly or breathe outside their bubbles, hummingbirds needed to eat almost their entire weight in food a day and could easily out-eat me, bees were much too busy and likely to get injured from using their defence, dragonflies were far, far to rambunctious when it came to racing and ladybugs were a little too confusing since I couldn't read their symbols. Just as I was ready to give up, a bright lavender light shone and there she was... the firefly for me. It took a while, but I finally named her Violet Beacon. These days she alerts me of any danger that I can't hear too well and doesn't even mind when we visit the Winter Woods! All I need to do is find her a nice warm outfit!
