When a human baby laughs for the first time, a fairy is born. Their gender is based on the baby who originated them, e.g. female fairies are born from female babies, and male fairies always are born from male babies — and they can be totally different of their ethnicity. They arrive at the Pixie Dust Tree, and with a sprinkle of golden Pixie Dust, the laugh is transformed into a fairy. This event is known as Arrival. After Queen Clarion welcomes them into Pixie Hollow, the ceremony of "Discovering Talents" is started. She conjures a mushroom circle in the Pixie Dust Tree, and various fairies of different talents bring objects to represent their talents. When the new fairy touches an item that does not represent his or her talent, the item will be unresponsive or even disappear, and the mushroom will stop shining. They are born wearing pieces of laughter, that are known as "Arrival Garments" that can vary between them. However, they always arrive barefooted and without any hairstyle. When him or her finds the item representing their talent, the item will glow and the rest of them will stop shining too. After discovering her talent, Queen Clarion gives a name for the newly-borned fairy and gently asks for other same-talent fairies to introduce themselves. That’s how it goes for all the fairies… but this wasn’t exactly how it went for me. Let’s start off with the fairy whom arrived to Pixie Hollow just years before I did. Dust-talent fairy Zarina performed alchemical experiments with pixie dust and found that by mixing approximately a daily allotment of dust, a grain or two of blue pixie dust, and another ingredient or two, she could create other colors of dust that would allow any fairy to perform tasks and feats associated with other talents. For example, a mix made with crushed sunflower seeds and a pinch of moonflower produced amber pixie dust, which allowed any fairy it was put on to control light. Putting any of these pixie dusts on a fairy will apparently override his or her original talent, only allowing that fairy to use the new talent (See ‘The Pirate Fairy’ movie). Zarina changed Pixie Hollow significantly. She created a new fairy talent! Pixie Dust Alchemy is what she decided to name it. Alchemy-talent fairies make many variations of pixie dust such as green (signifies Tinker talent), amber (Light talent), pink (Garden Talent), purple (Fast Flying), cyan (Water Talent), orange (Animal talent) and white (Frost talent). (Zarina is the only one of this talent for now and has been waiting for a new fairy to arrive so that hopefully he/she will have Alchemy talent and she will have someone to mentor.) Zarina knew she was one of a kind. With the creativity she possessed, one might have mistaken her for a Tinker. All that aside, Pixie Hollow was in a bit a rough spot. The fairies had to soon go to the Mainland to change Summer to Fall, but the preparations were nowhere near ready. Things were quite hectic and all the fairies were freaking out. On top of rushing to get the preparations done, there was a rumor of a New Arrival. One fairy said she could sense a new fairy was coming to Pixie Hollow soon. Zarina knew she could at least do something to help. Using her Tinker-like mind, she came up with an idea. If a new fairy were to come, he/she could assist to the current hectic state of Pixie Hollow if they could help out with several of the different talents preparations at once. What Pixie Hollow needed was a fairy with numerous talents! Zarina’s eyes lit up at the thought of this. Nothing like this had ever been done before. She went straight to Queen Clarion to tell her all about this idea. She told her that all they had to do is sprinkle the different colors of pixie dust Zarina had created herself on the laugh, instead of the usual golden pixie dust, to transform the laugh into a fairy with multiple talents! Queen Clarion wasn’t sure what to think of this at first and was slightly intimidated by Zarina’s eagerness. A council meeting was held and the Minister of Summer thought it was a great idea. After much discussion, it was agreed that if a new fairy were to come, Zarina could go on with her plan. Days went by and the rumor of the new arrival turned out to be true. Only, it wasn’t just one new fairy… it was two! Vidia rounded up the two pretty flowers with her winds and guided them to the Pixie Dust Tree. Two fairies born of the same laugh… sisters! Tinker Bell and Periwinkle smiled at each other. Zarina was only expecting one fairy though, and there was only enough of her colored pixie dust for one fairy. She couldn’t make more dust either because everything else that was left was for the Mainland. She came to a conclusion that she would just have to make the most of what she had. So she went over to the first flower and sprinkled her striking rainbow pixie dust onto it. Beautiful particles of amber, pink, cyan, orange, white, green, and purple left all the fairies watching in awe. Then Zarina looked inside her nearly empty bag and realized the only color left was cyan and a bit of white. She turned towards the second flower.  Once again, she sprinkled the dust ever so gracefully onto the flower… Only this time, the dust wasn’t rainbow colored like the first. Cyan dust with small trickles of white turned the flower into a fairy. The two sisters looked around and then at each other.  They both tilted their heads and gazed at the many faces all around that stared curiously at them. And with a golden glow and a sparkle, Queen Clarion arrived.“ Born of laughter, clothed in cheer, happiness has brought you here. I welcome both of you to Pixie Hollow.” She glided over to the first sister and gently touched her pair of diaphanous wings, veined with delicate patterns, and they extended outward. She flapped them ever so slightly and rose off the ground. Queen Clarion grasped her hand and swirled her around. She did the same to the second sister. Immediately both sisters’ wings sparkled just like  Tinker Bell’s and Periwinkle’s had.  Their wings were identical! There was no need for a ceremony of “Discovering Talents” since their talents had already been determined by the color of the pixie dust Zarina used on each girl. The Queen announced their names were Foxglove  (since they came to Pixie Hollow as wilted Foxglove flowers) and Charity. In the end, Zarina’s idea worked! These two fairies contributed so much to Pixie Hollow’s preparations… And they amazed everyone with their talents. Charity took pride in being a mixed talent fairy. After all, she was one of a kind. And as for me, I love being a water and frost fairy!
